For Term 4 we will be working with a new model called Hannah.
There will be an added models cost for the two classes
We will draw for the first two days of term, take some photographs and then do some paniting from these.
The little chapel to one side of the hall has some great “Vermeer” type light which is good for tonal work and the main hall has a marvellous ballet mirror which we will use to do some “reflection” poses.
Hannah says she has a “princess” costume which sounds interesting!!
some poses will be nude and some draped
The drawing exercises we will do will include:
Gesture and getting some idea of movement through form- so the figures look full of life
Balancing the figure: learning to connect the point on the head of the model which relates to the foot carrying the most weight- this is such a simple observation skill which immediately makes your figure look as if she is standing balanced’
Proportion:one of the early considerations for getting the proportions right is establishing “knowns” like how high the figure is and where the midway point point is and calculating other proportions from these knowns.
Seeing the mass: learning to describe the “mass” of the figure – giving it three dimension but more to the point” weight that occupies space”
Drawing with straight lines:describing curves with straight lines is one of the best exercsises for sharpening up observation skills, slowing your observing right down to see the direction of the planes and contours
look forward to seeing you all in term 4
